I mean, really - what is there not to love about pink tutu's and ballet slippers with satin ribbons? And what a wonderful theme to decorate around!
Pink is the name of the game here. You can decide to go with a neutral bedding set as a base or snazz it up with a themed set - there are so many to choose from.
The key with this theme are the accessories. Lots of tulle is a must. Instead of going with a classic set of curtains, buy a few yards of tulle and drape them over the windows. Or go with sheer curtains for an ultra feminine look.
A dress up play area is also a good way to decorate a ballerina bedding theme. I have picked up some wonderful handmade tutus that little girls just adore playing with. My daughter takes ballet classes and every year she is in a recital. The costumes she wears for these performances make for great dress up fun after the event is over. In one corner of the room set up a small, child sized wardrobe cabinet or even simpler, hang a few decorative hooks on the wall to display the costumes. Next to that set up a full length mirror. Now you have a wonderful interactive display that adds to the theme.
Dressing up the walls is easy as well. Many discount stores sell wall art featuring ballet costumes, and ballet shoes. For older girls - prints from the famed artist Degas introduce both culture and taste.
And a throwback from my childhood is the timeless musical jewelry box, that has a teeny tiny twirling ballerina inside - something every little girl should have. ;-)
