Kids Space Bedding

Kids space bedding is a very popular theme amongst boys of all ages. It is particularly long lasting which is part of the attraction. Also,  parents love this decor because they hope to develop a lifelong interest in astronauts and astronomy. Come on - who doesn't want their child to be a genius?



The great thing about decorating in outerspace style is that there is a ton of options. No matter what the budget, there is all kinds of stuff available.

The most basic approach is starting off with some kind of planets print for the comforter, shams, curtains, and sheets.This type of general print can grow with the child and will probably wear out before the kids tire of the theme. Adding a neutral area rug - which can be expensive, is a smart choice because even if the bed set is changed the rug can continue to be used.

Another approach is to keep the linens plain - (neutral bed sets are cheap and easy to find) and dress up the walls instead.  When my oldest child was small we papered one wall in his room with a constellation wallpaper that would glow in the dark. I totally loved it but as time went by the paper started to peel (perhaps with a bit of help from little hands) and eventually we had it taken down and repainted. Vinyl clings are an excellent option to avoid this hassle because they are easily removable and generally will not ruin the paint underneath. While a wallpaper border with a galaxy theme looks so quaint - it will require a lot of effort to change.

Optionally, a wall mural, photographs, paintings, and glow in the dark stars are also good choices for walls. The traditional route is to have the wall painted by an artist but again time and expense are involved in both the actual painting and the removal. It might also be very hard to paint over such a creation when the kids get tired of the space theme - because of the emotions and memories that are attached to the mural. Luckily, large, room size murals are available that are really cool. 

Whether you decide to deck out the linens or the walls or both there are lots of patterns to choose from. One popular line are the Olive Kids space bedding sets. They come in a variety of sizes from baby and toddler on up.
And there are accessories such as sheets and curtains available as well.

While this theme traditionally appeals to boys - this is an equal opportunity world and girls should not have to miss out on the fun. Here is an astronaut bed set that features more "girlish" colors. If a a brother and sister share a room then this might be the way to go.
