Ballerina Bedding

What little girl doesn't love Ballerina Bedding ?

I mean, really - what is there not to love about pink tutu's and ballet slippers with satin ribbons? And what a wonderful theme to decorate around!

Pink is the name of the game here. You can decide to go with a neutral bedding set as a base or snazz it up with a themed set - there are so many to choose from.

Twin Ballerina Girl Twin Kids Childrens Bedding Set 4pcsThe set pictured here is simple and will blend with a lot of different types of decor. If you are trying to fit this pattern in with an existing set up then this might be the way to go. But IMHO this lacks a bit of pizazz. I much prefer the set shown on the right. It still features the pale pink colors that is popular with lots of little girls bedding sets but it has a much more original quilt that sets it apart from the rest.

The key with this theme are the accessories. Lots of tulle is a must. Instead of going with a classic set of curtains, buy a few yards of tulle and drape them over the windows. Or go with sheer curtains for an ultra feminine look.

A dress up play area is also a good way to decorate a ballerina bedding theme. I have picked up some wonderful handmade tutus that little girls just adore playing with. My daughter takes ballet classes and every year she is in a recital. The costumes she wears for these performances make for great dress up fun after the event is over. In one corner of the room set up a small, child sized wardrobe cabinet or even simpler, hang a few decorative hooks on the wall to display the costumes. Next to that set up a full length mirror. Now you have a wonderful interactive display that adds to the theme.

Dressing up the walls is easy as well. Many discount stores sell wall art featuring ballet costumes, and ballet shoes. For older girls - prints from the famed artist Degas introduce both culture and taste.

And a throwback from my childhood is the timeless musical jewelry box, that has a teeny tiny twirling ballerina inside - something every little girl should have. ;-)

Kids Toile Bedding

Kids toile bedding is making an entrance into homes everywhere.

Toile fabric is synonymous with a canvas or linen cloth that is imprinted with a simple all over type pattern that appears to be sketched. It is believed that this material was once used as samples for practicing the print.

Pink and Brown French Toile and Polka Dot Full Queen 3 pc Girls Kids and Teen Bedding Set by JoJoToday this cloth is showing up in more and more in home decor. The background is traditionally a cream or white color. The new designs have a base in just about any color of the rainbow. This pink and brown kids toile bedding set for girls from JoJo Designs has a pink background with a brown imprint. It is subdued yet very classy.

When I think of this type of fabric it brings to mind things from France - the country from which this word originated. Because of this sophisticated connotation - this pattern would work great for teen girls. If your daughter has a formal side then decorating around this theme would be a treat. Picture frames, flower vases, and clocks made of crystal and china can be found on discount at local home stores.

White wicker furniture can also add a bit of a french country feel along with a breath of fresh air. Interestingly - this pattern is making it's way from the rooms of mom and dad and teens to that of baby.

It seems that young parents who enjoy this look other areas of the home want to continue the pattern into the nursery - and voila - toile baby bedding has emerged as a very popular item.

Soho Pink & Brown French Toile 10 Pcs Baby Crib Bedding SetSimilar to the pink bed set pictured above - this crib set carries the same look in brown and pink. If sisters share a room - this could be a good fit. Also, when my daughter was in a crib, I already had a twin bed in her room which I had set up as a daybed (it was also very useful for those nighttime feedings!) I dressed the twin bed in linens to match the crib set. Using a coordinating pattern on both added to the overall appeal of the room.

I also found this cheerful toile crib bedding in green and white.

So you can see that this french pattern works well in kids bedrooms. The advantage here is that children are not likely to outgrow the simple sophistication that this theme has to offer. The disadvantage for babies and toddlers is that it is not as stimulating and fun as sets that features children's favorite characters.

Pirates of the Caribbean Bedding

Pirates of the Caribbean bedding is popular with older kids.

I don't think anyone truly outgrows the magic and swashbuckling fun of a pirate bedding theme. That is why movies featuring these renegade characters are so popular. One such film by Disney has taken off amongst kids young and old. Starring Captain Jack Sparrow this movie makes an excellent backdrop for a kids room.

Toddlers, preschoolers, and even children in elementary school will enjoy themes featuring cute unnamed buccaneers like the set from Olive Kids. But there comes an age when something more exciting and cool is required.

Pirates of the Caribbean Grn Pirates Kraken Wvn Comf - TwinThere are several Pirates of the Caribbean bedding sets to choose from - as there are many versions of the movie. The Kraken theme is the most recent and will have the most options available. Personally, I like to mix things up so that a find from any of the themes will work. Pictured to the left is a twin comforter from Kraken while to the right you will see a bed set from Dead Man's Chest.

Decorating around a pirate theme is easy given the volume of props that are available. I like to dress kids rooms up with toys because they are decorative as well as functional. However, as kids get older their interest in toys tends to diminish. But one thing that my tweens still love to play with are building sets - and thankfully there are tons of pirate ship Legos and more out there such as the one picured here.

LEGO Pirates Brickbeard's Bounty

Pirates of the Caribbean JOHNNY DEPP PillowcaseAccessories can also help to set the mood. The key with a Pirates of the Caribbean bedding theme is to avoid things that may be considered "juvenile". As parents we know that these older kids are still young at heart but are trying so hard to show that they are so grown up. The pillowcase pictured here fits the bill. No teen would be embarrassed to show this off in his room.

When it comes to a pirate theme - an inexpensive and easy opportunity to decorate comes around every October. Halloween is rife with plastic treasure and jolly rogers. At any time of year - a travel trunk makes a great storage chest that fits right in with the theme.

I would love to hear some of your ideas for decorating a teens room in this pattern.

Baby Boy Bedding

Baby boy bedding has come a long way since I had my first child - as I mentioned before.

I shudder to admit that our first crib set featured Beatrix Potter's Peter Rabbit on a background of pale yellows, pinks, and blues. Now I have nothing against this little bunny but today's infant crib sets have so much more personality and pizzaz! There is something for just about every taste.

Boutique Brand New GEENNY Baby Boy Artist 13PCS CRIB BEDDING SETThe set pictured here is very modern and features lots of geometric shapes in subdued colors. With a coordinating diaper stacker, wall hangings, wallpaper border, and sheets - you can have a redo in a matter of minutes!

SoHo Froggies Party Baby Infant Crib Nursery Bedding Set 10pcs **Reversible Into Morden Blue & Brown Polka Dot Designs **Personally, though, I prefer something a bit more childish - to put it bluntly. When babies first become aware of their surroundings they really begin to recognize faces - even the faces on their crib sets! I remember my son happily cooing daily at Peter Rabbit. This baby boy bedding set has a whimiscal set of frogs that would delight many an infant. This would also be a nice tie in to a big sister's bed set that features Princess Tiana bedding - from Disney's new movie The Princess and the Frog.

Boutique Baby Boy Camouflage Army 10pc Crib Bedding SetCamouflage crib bedding is also a very popular pattern. Here is an infant set by SoHo Designs in traditional army green that is fun and inviting. This decor will work well even as the child grows as there are several choices in this pattern for older boys and girls. Again, there are a lot of coordinating accessories that will weave the the camo theme throughout the room.

All Star Sports Baby Bedding - 9 pc Crib SetSports is another universal theme in baby boy bedding. There is something about boys and sports that has spanned centuries. This particular set by JoJo Designs is done in browns and earth tones which can conjure up a somewhat stately feel to a nursery. Available accessories include matching pennant shaped wall hangings. You can either use these or display the pennants of your favorite teams instead. Using actual sports posters, equipment, and toys to decorate around this pattern will be an easy investment that will likely last for years.

Boutique Baby Boy Trucks and Trains 10pcs Crib Bedding SETAnd finally, I would be remiss if I didn't mention cars and planes and trucks - yes vehicles are an enduring favorite in boys crib bedding sets. As a mom of three boys I have witnessed this fascination first hand. And there is no shortage of toys that would fit right in with this theme. In fact, as the children grow, there are toddler beds that are even shaped as race cars - a little boy's dream come true!

There is no possible way that I could cover every crib set that is available on the market - but hopefully these examples will get the ball rolling!

Baby Bedding Sets

Baby bedding sets were so boring when my children were little.

I remember heading out to what was then called "Baby Superstore" and walking down rows of cribs outfitted with comforters and matching bumpers and just imagining what each set would like in my baby nursery. Those were the days!

Now it is just as easy to change nursery decor as it is to change clothes - literally. With discount stores like Amazon and Target, shopping for infants has gotten easier and surprisingly cheaper.

For my first child I looked for an infant bedding set that was kind of gender neutral. I wanted something that would fit with either a boy or a girl. I didn't know at the time if I was having a son or daughter but my practical side said that it didn't matter. Since I planned on having more than one child it made more sense to pick a theme that would last through all the kids. Well, I had planned on two kids, and four kids later my philosophy no longer applied.

My first three children were boys - and honestly, most baby bedding sets are not designed to withstand the workout that three little boys can deliver. By the time my daughter came along - I was ready for something pink and new.

I have seen some fantastic crib bedding sets recently that I just drool over. And the best part is that there is usually a coordinating set available for a twin bed as well. If your child outgrows the bedding before he or she outgrows the pattern then it is easy to get the same theme for them when they move on to the "big" bed. Also, if the infant shares a room with an older sibling then this can open up a lot of decorating options.

Whatever you are looking for, you will be able to find it! Here are some patterns that I have chosen to showcase because I just think they are awesome.
